The Contemporary Music Venture
About:
The CMV series of concerts was founded by Arthur Keegan-Bole and David Fay who curated and administered the series from 2011-14. In 2015 CMV was re-structured with a view to sustaining the series into the future. Since then CMV is curated and administered by committee, and the committee for 2018 is: David Bevan, Dominic McDonald and Peter Relph.
Mission Statement:
The CMV series of concerts aims to provide early-career composers the opportunity to have their music performed to the highest standard by early-career professionals and the best student performers at public concerts. We strive to create an environment where composers can work with performers throughout the writing process – a luxury rarely available to emerging composers. Each concert frames commissioned works with established contemporary repertoire of the same instrumentation in a programme co-curated by the performers, allowing them to shape the overall concert experience.
It is our hope that we can promote contemporary music to a wide audience not necessarily familiar with it in an un-intimidating environment, whilst providing a forum to show off the talent and hard work of up-and-coming composers alongside core parts of the contemporary repertoire.
It is a cornerstone of this series that our concerts are free, they last one hour and that all are welcome.
So far we have commissioned and had performed 79 brand new pieces!
Many thanks.
